The Center for Science in the Public Interest just released a list of "Ten Foods You Should Never Eat." They had the word "never" underlined, just in case you were possibly considering eating one of these foods and needed more encouragement not to do it.
Thinking about my own dietary choices, what I found most interesting about the ten foods list was how many of them were very high carb foods. Things like granola, bugles, french fries, and donuts. In case you were wondering whether those things are at all good for you, the folks at CSPI are giving you a resounding "NO."

I did wonder how these specific ten foods happened to make the cut. Surely there are plenty of other equally heinous foods out there that could have been mentioned. Did the owners of these companies somehow irk the folks at CSPI? Did CSPI do some kind of research and discover that, while plenty of foods are bad, somehow these ten foods are bad, bad, bad? Who decided that these are THE TEN WORST FOODS YOU COULD EAT?
Out of the ten, the only one I might eat on anything remotely resembling a regular basis would be the Campbells Soup. I don't eat soup out of a can, but I do use their cream soups sometimes in a sauce or casserole. Shocking I realize, but hey, I'm human. The reason the soup made the list is the sodium content. Compared to the stats for some of the other foods on the list, the soup didn't seem that bad, but maybe I'm just rationalizing. After all, when these folks say never eat it, they mean NEVER.
Has to make me wonder if they have seen what kids are being fed for school lunch anytime recently.

I do have to agree with the last sentence. I work in a school and the food they give the students does not seem very nutritious.
Wow, that's a rather specific list. I would have expected it to be more like "any snacks with Olestra" and "boxed granola" because really, how can you pick just one "worst" canned soup when they are almost all sodium-delivery systems? As the list reads now, it's a lot like reading a Rachael Ray cookbook, all brand names and over-simplification with little useful information. And I usually like CSPI...
