Blogher started as an annual conference on blogging, focused on building support, opportunities, and relationships among women bloggers. Now the women who started Blogher, the conference, have created Blogher, the website, to continue and expand those goals. And what a website it is!I've been asked to be a contributing editor for the Food and Drink section of the Blogher site, where our mission is to keep you updated on the best of what's being posted by women blogging about food and drink. The other contributing editors are Elise Bauer of Simply Recipes, Sam Breach of Becks and Posh, Alanna Kellogg of A Veggie Venture, Jennifer Maiser of Life Begins at 30, Jennifer Hamilton of The Domestic Goddess, Shauna James of Gluten-Free Girl, and Toby Bloomberg of Diva Marketing Blog. All those great women food bloggers and moi? I am honored beyond words to be a part of this.
My assignment for Blogher is to cover weight loss, a beat that I'm calling "eating your way to a smaller size." I'm guessing that's a topic of interest to a lot of women! I'll be looking for food blogs who feature recipes suitable for a particular way of eating. The only two diets I'm really that familiar with are the South Beach Diet and Weight Watchers, so if you're writing a blog and talk about a different weight-loss plan, send me an e-mail and let me know what you're writing about. I'll also be posting a short piece each week about Weekend Herb Blogging, pointing people towards some of the great posts that are written for that.

Down the left sidebar of the Blogher site, you can choose a topic to read posts written by the contributing editors about that specific topic. If you're a food blogger, or a food blog reader, you'll want to visit the Food and Drink Section of Blogher often. The food editors have also been busy adding names of food blogs written by women to the blogroll at Blogher. (There are so many good blogs written by women that we've barely gotten started adding them, so if you're a woman food blogger and you don't see your blog, be sure visit the list of Food and Drink Blogs and add it yourself.)
The Blogher site has an impressive list of other categories besides Food and Drink and every category has its own group of fabulous women bloggers to guide you to the best of what's being written about in that category. One last thing, but it's an important one. If you want to be where the women bloggers are next summer, sign up early for Blogher '06, the conference. This year the theme is "How Your Blogs Are Changing the World."

Kalyn, Congratulations on being picked to be part of a great project!
Cool - well done you!
Isn't it strange how high a proportion of food bloggers are female?
Congratulations, Kalyn! They could not have chosen better. I joined Blogher too after finding it when I noticed that Sam of Beck & Posh mentioned me in an article. I like the idea of us ladies united in blogdom. Can't wait to read your articles!
Hearty congratulations, Kalyn!
Congrats, Kalyn! I'm psyched! It looks like a great project. Glad you're a part of it. Looking forward to seeing what you contribute - I just *know* it will be good. :-)
How cool! Congrats, Kalyn! Also, how nifty to go over to the Blogher site for the first time and see Belly Timber already on the blog roll!
I am sorry to delete comments from people who seem to mean well, but I can't allow people to leave links in the comments or my comments become simply an ad for other people's blogs. If you have a blog you want me to know about, please send an e-mail (kalynskitchen AT comcast DOT net).
