Monthly South Beach Diet Phase One Round-Ups (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Started March 2008, this page has links to  the once-a-month recipe round-ups of South Beach Diet Phase One Low-Glycemic Recipes posted on Kalyn's Kitchen that month, as well as delicious phase one recipes from other blogs.

You can use the label Low-Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups to scroll through all these posts, or see the Pinterest board for Kalyn's Kitchen South Beach Diet Phase One Recipe Round-ups.

(In June 2014 I started doing Deliciously Healthy Low-Carb Recipes Round-Ups which were not so strictly focused on South Beach Phase One.  The new format focuses on recipes that are all Low-Carb, Grain-Free and Gluten-Free; many featured recipes are South Beach Phase One, Paleo, or Whole 30.)

  1. Can anyone recommend good phase 1 breakfast options that do not include eggs? My husband is committed to the diet, but after the first week, really doesn't want eggs for breakfast anymore. Help please.

  2. Lindsey, a few people have made suggestions about phase one ideas without eggs on the index page for eggs and breakfast dishes if you want to check and see if any of them sound appealing. I haven't come up with a great idea yet for that, but one thing I eat sometimes is just lowfat ham rolled around a piece of cheese. (I use string cheese, cut into a couple of pieces, wrap a thin piece of ham around each one. Not very exotic, but I like it.)

  3. Thanks so much for the quick response, I hadn't seen those posts (new to the blogging world and didn't scroll down far enough). Those are great to get me started and I'll be sure to add a post of my own if I come up with any good non-egg Phase I breakfast ideas. :)

  4. sometime i get tired of eggs as well so I have sweetened it up a little. I use egg whites(can be egg beaters whites) and add a packet of splenda, drop of almond extract and some cinnamon. Whip them up real good and cook them with a little pam spray. It kind of forms a pancake looking omlet. On phase 2 go ahead and top it with some fruit. Yummy if your tired of savory every morning.

  5. I have cottage cheese for SB Phase 1 breakfast - no prep time! :) You can even get the "to go" versions now.

  6. I love this website. I am soooo happy to have found it. I am just getting started on SBD, but I took tuna for breakfast to work 2 days. My coworkers thought I was nuts, but works for me. I am going to try egg salad next week.

  7. Thanks everyone for the breakfast ideas!

Kay, thanks for letting me know you're enjoying the blog.

  8. Kayln, your site is an inspiration to us all. You are so generous and helpful! I have been trying to find a place that gives menu suggestions for the SB diet. I know they have menus in the books but I was wondering if there be any other sources for menus? That's the part I struggle with--what to serve with what.

  9. Cookcat, some of my posts have suggestions for what to serve with the dish, but other than that I don't know what else to suggest. Have you tried googling "South Beach Diet Menus?"

  10. We want to restart the SBD but we were looking for some recipes to freeze so we could get home and pop a container into the oven (like the dinner places where you could make 14 meals in about an hour..)... are there some great recipes that freeze well or does anyone have any suggestions??? thanks

  11. Hi Lindsey! I make pancakes but use chick pea flour - they are spectacular! You can even get sugar/carb free "maple" syrup in some kosher sections of certain grocery stores. I make a savoury version too that I use as a bread substitute or as a side to curries and stews.

  12. Kayln,
Your site is FANTASTIC! You have so many great meal options that make it impossible to fall off track. I was wondering if Blue Agave was ok to use for any South Beach phase?

  13. I'm not sure if Agave nectar is listed in the official SB Diet books, but personally I consider it okay for phase 2 or 3.

I did SBD in 2004 and lost 14 kilos which stayed off for 2 years. Unfortunately I got into my old bad habits and gained all the weight I lost. This year, Jan 1st I decided to start all over again and that's when I found your blog. It's fantastic! I have already made several recipes from it and whenever I run out of ideas I have a quick look at your blog and find something good. A big thank you from me and please don't stop. FYI, I've already lost 3 kilos and totally motivated to keep going!

    1. Irene, way to go! I am so glad the blog is helpful for you this time around! I'm currently doing a little "diet tune-up" myself so I understand where you are coming from, but the thing I love about South Beach is that you can do phase one for a while and you're back on track.

  17. When I click on the links for 2012 on the SB recipe round-up page I get a Not Found 404 Error page. Has anyone else reported this problem? The links prior to 2012 seem to work fine.

  18. Claudia, I have no idea what happened but thanks so much for letting me know. I am fixing them right now!

  20. My mom, sister and I have been doing SB for a couple of years now and we love your Blog. Whenever we recommend someone try SB we always give them your link. I do not think I would be able to be as successful without your awesome recipe ideas.
