The lovely and talented Melissa of The Traveler's Lunchbox has declared that all food bloggers must write about the five things to eat before you die, and the equally lovely and talented Anna from Morsels and Musings has tagged me to participate. Not that a tag is necessary, anyone who feels like participating is invited, but still it was nice to get the nudge from Anna. As I was prone to do when I was a student, I immediately started to overthink the assignment. It was the "eat before you die" part that I struggled with. Does this mean five things that you absolutely must taste at sometime in your life? Or does it mean, if you knew you were going to die, what are the favorite foods you would want to eat in the remaining time you had left? Or, possibly a more global interpretation, are you to choose five foods that everyone on earth should eat at least once?
But when I re-visited the Traveler's Lunchbox, it was clear. Melissa wants food bloggers to tell about "things you've eaten and think that everyone should eat at least once before they die." It's definitely hard to narrow it down to five, but here's my list.
First on my list is sushi, and in particular, I would choose Spicy Tuna Roll. If I had to choose Spicy Tuna Roll from just one of the many sushi places around the U.S. where I've eaten it, I would choose Spicy Tuna Roll from Tsunami Restaurant and Sushi Bar in Salt Lake. I could eat this all day long.
My second choice would be some type of Thai Curry, and if I was very specific in the selection I'd choose either Red Curry or Panang Curry with Chicken from Thai Siam in Salt Lake. But truly, any Thai curry would probably make me smile.
My third choice would be Thai Chicken Salad from East Street Cafe in Washington D.C., something I used to order every time I visited there and never got tired of eating. It's such a perfect combination of flavors, everyone must try it.
My next choice would be Greek Salad, or more specifically American Greek Salad with a bit of lettuce, lots of cucumbers, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, and feta, no green pepper, and blue cheese dressing. If the salad has some pepperoncini I'll eat them, but they're purely optional in my mind. I order this at Cafe Med in Salt Lake every time I go there.
Last, nothing could be better than simple bacon and tomato sandwiches with toasted whole wheat bread, lots of mayo, very crisp bacon, and Brandywine tomatoes right from the garden. That's heaven on a plate. This is another thing I would never get tired of eating. Now the hard part. Indeed, anyone who feels like doing this should leave your list or the link in the comments at Traveler's Lunchbox. But just to keep it going, or because I'd so love to see what's on their list, I'm going to tag a few of my favorite food bloggers:
1. Cookiecrumb at I'm Mad and I Eat (who tagged me for my very first meme)
2. Alanna from A Veggie Venture (who doesn't have to choose all veggies)
3. Nic from Bakingsheet (who can choose things that aren't baked if she wants)
4. Paz from The Cooking Adventures of Chef Paz (who probably has some interesting choices, since she's in New York)
5. Erin from Erin's Kitchen (ditto on the interesting choices since she's in L.A.)

Wow!! Wonderful choices...literally drooling here at the snaps!! :)
what a great concept...thanks for the tag! I will put my thinking cap on, though I can't imagine anything better than your bacon tomato sandwich...now I want one for breakfast!
Oh--very good choices! My taste buds were tingling as I saw each picture. I want to eat them all right now. Wait---I'd like to taste all of them right now. If I ate them, I'd probably burst.
Wow, they all look fabulous and I'd love to eat each one but one at a time. I'm most upset that I didn't remember the BLT but I was happy with my five until I saw your BLT.
Kalyn,
Just a BT? No L?
Indianadoc, I was drooling too when I typed it.
Erin, glad you are excited to do it.
Sher, thanks. I knew you would like it since we've synchronized our taste buds.
Tanna, thanks. I need to go see your list.
Kevin, lettuce is purely optional in my opinion. I like to let the tomato soak into the bread!
So I'm looking over your list, and comparing it with the list I'm working on in my head (thanks for the tag!), and I'm all, like, trying to make my list esoteric and arcane and difficult, and finally I come to your tomato sandwich.
D'oh!
That, my dear, is food.
Yum! I have sushi on my list too :) Love that! And have to agree with everyone's comments on the tomato and bacon sandwich! YUM!
Love your list! Yum! Thanks for the tag. Will get on it and post, soon!
Paz
Great list. I was nodding along with everyone else.
Thanks for sharing.
