A Menu for Hope has been going for less than a week, and already the total has far surpassed last year's $17,000, due to the generosity of bloggers and blog readers around the world. I've been visiting FirstGiving many times each day watching the total grow. Click that link to see the latest total, then take a look at the prizes that have been donated by central U.S. bloggers and food bloggers from everywhere and buy a few raffle tickets. You could win something really fabulous!Photo Studio in a Box (UC06) has been very popular in the bidding. It was donated by Untangled Life (aka Rand and Bradley) for Kalyn's Kitchen to offer as a prize. When Untangled Life started selling Photo Studio in a Box, my brother Rand gave me one for an early Christmas present, and after I'd used it for a while, I raved about it on my blog. I love this little light box, and use it for nearly all the close-up food shots for Kalyn's Kitchen since my house faces north and I rarely have great light for photos. I have another light mounted above it, and use my own fabric swatches to get different backgrounds. I still have a lot to learn about food photography, but here are some shots I've taken using it.
If you've been reading this blog a while, you probably realize I'm a Utah public school teacher, and while I like the job, I don't make that much money. When Rand and Bradley offered to donate Photo Studio in a Box (and the Apple iPod Nano - Prize Code UC07) for a Menu of Hope I was very excited. Since they were giving me two fabulous prizes, I thought I could use my own money to bid on prizes instead, and I've been watching to see what exactly I should bid on.
Now I've changed my mind about bidding on prizes. As one of the host blogs, I think I might feel a bit funny about winning a prize anyway. Instead I've decided to use the money I would have spent bidding and offer a second Photo Studio in a Box (second one is prize code UC14.) This means that two lucky people will be winning one of these lovely light boxes. If you've been wanting to bid on it, your chances of winning one have just doubled. You can bid on either UC06 or UC14. (UC06 has quite a few bids already, so it's up to you to decide what's the best strategy for winning one. And remember, it's for a good cause even if you don't win.) Like the first one, this can be shipped anywhere in the world.
What are you waiting for? Get over to FirstGiving and buy some raffle tickets!

Here's the New Total and other Reminders!
The total amount raised is now up to $5,260 $10,055 $13,380 $16,625 $21,568 through A Menu For Hope, passing last year's total by nearly $5,000 and we have nearly a week still to go! I'll update with the new amount on every post until the campaign ends December 22. Here's how to buy raffle tickets.
There's no regular Weekend Herb Blogging for the next two weeks, but on December 23 I'll be posting a recap of recipes people have posted for Holiday Cooking with Herbs. If you're a food blogger, please share one of your favorite holiday recipes using herbs, plants, veggies, or flowers. Some good sounding recipes are showing up all over the world. When the event ends I'll be saving the recap in the Weekend Herb Blogging section in the right sidebar as a reference for holiday recipes.

You are a generous person Kalyn! Way to go!
that's so nice of you Kalyn.
I thought it would be weird to win a prize too but Pim insisted to me it would be ok. I just hope if I win something that everyone doesn't complain. I hope people are bigger than that.
Thanks Christine.
Sam, after all the tons and tons of work you've done, you deserve to win a prize. Don't give it a thought. I hope you do win!
