When I was a kid, one of the things I loved about Easter (besides the candy, of course) was getting new shoes. My mother always made frilly Easter dresses for all the girls in the family, and we got new shiny patent leather shoes for church. In a family of ten kids, getting new shoes was something that didn't happen all that often, so it was always a wonderful sign of a new season. If you live in Utah, wearing your sandals for the first time is also a sign of celebration for a new season. This week I got to wear these favorite sandals for the first time for about six months, and my toes are feeling happy.
I'm going to be doing some Easter celebrating with my family and friends for the next few days, so I'm taking the rest of the weekend off from the blog. (Not really of course, I'll still be cooking and taking photos, but you know what I mean!) In the meantime, you can read about How to Make Perfect Hard-Boiled Eggs, a fabulous and cancer-fighting Carrot and Parsley Salad, my new favorite White Bean Salad with Tuna and Parsley, or just look around in the recipe archives for something yummy to cook.
If you're looking for Easter recipes that are a bit out-of-the-ordinary, I just posted something at Blogher called Not Your Mother's Easter Recipes! I've also been writing there about Spotlighting Recipes for Passover, Hot Cross Buns for Good Friday, and Sweet and Savory Eggs for Easter. You can see why I need a break!
Happy Easter everyone! If you have something fun or special planned for Easter, leave a comment letting us know how you're celebrating.

Oh, my yes. I remember all the frilly Easter dresses mother made my sister and me! And the patent leather shoes! And all the egg hunts. I also remember one year my sister hide one of those eggs in the closet...not found for many months!
Happy Easter!! I am glad you are enjoying sandal weather! Me too!!
Yes, I love this time of the year too. I actually went for a pedicure last week to have the perfect feet for my new sandals!!
Have a great Easter, Kalyn!!
Happy Easter, Kalyn! Enjoy your last few days of break. :)
Happy Easter! It's raining cats and dogs here in Sydney, dashing any hope that the easter bunny has hidden any eggs out there. Nothing wrong with being at home wrapped up in a cosy coat, drinking tea and eating hot cross buns though :)
If you come to southern CA (where it's pretty casual and warm) those sandals can be your Easter shoes!
Thanks so much for the link to my Easter ricotta pie, Kalyn. Enjoy your holiday!
I am starting the SBD for the first time in my life. I want to lose about 10lbs. AND start to give up the bad carbs for life!!! So starting on Monday 4/9 Iam a SBdieter! I love your sandals, they remind me of my old ones I bought in Morrocco but are now 20 years later worn to bits. Are they hand made? Thanks in advance for the advise and recipes! Looking forward to checking in.
Sheila
Happy Easter to you. My daughter is so looking forward to wearing her Easter dress tomorrow. Unfortunately, it is a chilly 35 degrees here now.
Happy Easter everyone. Sorry to hear that some of you are having bad weather it's Easter morning and it's pouring rain here. I did buy some new sandals yesterday though, and am looking forward to wearing them soon (hopefully with a pedicure too!)
Happy Easter!
Paz
Have an awesome Easter!

Happy Easter Kalyn! I am working on my post for the WHB---will keep you posted...
Happy Easter Kalyn! Brings back memories -- I remember the new Easter Hats! and the year the pigeon flew by and ruined one on the walk to church!
Kalyn, Happy Easter! Love your sandals! I had to laugh because I was in Vegas all last week. I got on the plane in sandals in 91 degrees. I got OFF the plane in southwest Missouri in sandals with socks and the three shirts I crammed into my carry on because my husband called my cell to tell me that we'd taken a sudden dip in temps to 38 degrees and it was blowing a little snow. Hello? That's not Easter! Well, it is. I remember those frilly dresses and black patten leather shoes from when I was a kid too, and half the time those frilly spring dresses were covered up by my drab brown winter coat. :-)
Happy Easter in sandals or snow boots!
Wish we could wear sandals here in the arctic!
Happy Easter Kalyn. Your toes do look happy. I'm glad the weather is getting better:)
