It's a Happy Day When a Taste of Italy Comes in the Mail!

One of the best things about writing a blog is the chance to virtually "meet" people from all over the world and have a chance to share in their lives. Sometimes, through the computer screen, you can get enough of a sense of the person that they become a real friend. That certainly has happened to me with the uber-talented Ilva of Lucullian Delights, someone I'm planning to meet in person some day. When I came home Friday I found a notice from the post office, and Ilva had sent me this fabulous collection of goodies from Italy! Thank you to my great friend Ilva for the wonderful gift.

I had actually been thinking about Ilva recently as I contemplated the Two Year Anniversary of Weekend Herb Blogging because I thought she had been one of the first participants. When I checked, I found she sent this recipe for Chicken Breasts with Shallots, Sun-dried Tomatoes, and Thyme for Weekend Herb Blogging #5, which was November of 2005. What I didn't realize (and would have never guessed) was that Ilva had only been blogging a short time when she sent that entry. This week she celebrated the two year birthday Lucullian Delights, and it's clear from the comments that I'm not the only one who thinks Ilva is just the greatest! Seeing Ilva's beautiful photos and what she has been cooking is always a treat.

    CC, yes, must be Greek Laurel, so now I have both types, right, because I'm guessing the ones you gave me are California Laurel. The leaves on the ones from Ilva are much thinner, quite different really.
