Kalyn's Kitchen Picks: Meza Peppadew Feta Dip

Peppadew Feta DipIt's been a while since I've shared a product recommendation for Kalyn's Kitchen Picks, but last weekend I picked up a container of this Peppadew Feta Dip at Costco, and I completely loved it. This had the kind of flavor that made me take one bite and wonder why I hadn't bought it months ago when I first saw it. It's made by the same company that makes the Meza Hummus that I'm also wildly enthusiastic about, but I didn't find this dip on their website yet.

If you're not familiar with peppadew peppers, they're famous enough to have their own Wikipedia entry, and no wonder, because the flavor of these little red mildly spicy peppers is truly wonderful. Here's more about Peppadew Peppers from Slashfood. The peppers came from South Africa, but now they're available in the United States, and also many other parts of the world. This would be wonderful used as a dip for celery, cucumbers, bell peppers, or even apples, or to replace mayo on a sandwich, but keep reading to see how I ate it with another of my favorite South Beach Diet friendly products, and I also found a few recipes for peppadew peppers from other blogs.

The Meza Peppadew Feta Dip made a wonderful appetizer combined with some Carb Chopper Whole Wheat Tortillas from Santa Fe Tortilla Company. Here's the nutrition information for Carb Chopper Wheat Tortillas.

This couldn't be easier! I spread about one tablespoon of the Pappadew Feta Dip over each wheat tortilla.

Then I just rolled them up and ate them! For a fancier presentation, you could buy the bigger size of tortillas and slice them into little pinwheels.

South Beach Suggestions:
Not only is this dip truly delicious, it's very South Beach Diet friendly for a snack food with 8g fat, 2g carbs, 2g protein, and 0g sugar in two tablespoons.

More to Chew On:

  1. Looks good. I will have to try it. Costco always has good finds:)

  2. Wow, that sounds go good. I wish we had that at my local store. Have you ever tried La Tortilla Factory's tortillas? They're really healthy and surprisingly good. The flavored ones are awesome, too. The nutritonal value for a whole wheat one: 50 cal, 2g fat, 0g sat fat, 10g carb, 7g fiber, 0g sugar, 5g protein

  3. Maria, I think you would like it! I really love the peppadew flavor.

Suzuka, the La Tortilla Factory whole wheat tortilla sounds pretty good, with all that fiber. I will look for them here, thanks for the info!

  4. That just LOOKS awesome! It looks like it may be high in calories though, I will have to check the nutrition facts, I have to be very calorie conscientious these days...

  5. Wow, what an interesting blend of ingredients. Maybe I'm just really hungry, but it sounds fantastic.

  6. Thanks for the tip. I start SB tomorrow and I'm already craving apple slices. I'll pick some of this up to dip my celery in.

  7. I LOVE the artichoke-jalapeno dip at Costco. I'll buy this one too if I see it at Costco. Thanks for the tip!

  8. Thanks for the tip, I'll be hitting the Costco tomorrow!

  9. I've never seen peppadew peppers, but I will look out for them. Good to know the company behind them is so socially responible too. I wonder if the bottle of peri-peri sauce I just bought from Nandos (made in Sth Africa) has any in it?

  10. Peppadew peppers do have such a great flavor. I tried peppadew pepper-sprinkled potato chips the other day and they were delicious!

  11. Oooh, that sounds so good! Feta and peppadew is such a great combination (hence my feta & chive stuffed peppadew nibbles - thanks for the generous mention!). I also put them on pizzas or cut into strips and mix with honey and soy sauce for sticky, spicy pork chops. And if you like a sweetish salad dressing, use the pickling liquid from a jar of peppadews instead of vinegar in salad dressings :)

  12. And in answer to Neil's question, no - the flavour in the Nando's sauces is peri-peri :) But both are indeed proudly South African products.

  13. Lapa, thanks.

FWL, I did give the nutritional information but not the calories (since I don't count calories.) There are 90 calories in 2 T and this is highly flavored so 2 T goes a long ways.

Kelly, hungry or not, this is fantastic stuff.

Mrs. G. this would be great on celery.

Nabeela, I like that artichoke-jalapeno dip too!

    Deborah, you're welcome.

    Neil, Jeanne has answered you!

    Nupur, the chips sound great.

Jeanne, your ideas all sound just great to me. It really is a unique peppery flavor. And thanks for answering Neil too!
