I like discovering new food products and kitchen items, and when I find something I love, I'm always raving about it to my friends. Kalyn's Kitchen Picks is a blog feature that grew out of my natural inclination to share recommendations for products I'm excited about.
Everything featured on Kalyn's Kitchen Picks is a product I've tried myself and loved and some are things I've used for many years. Because I want my readers to know my opinions are completely unbiased, I no longer accept sample products of any kind. (In the past if I did occasionally feature a product I first tried as a sample, I always disclosed that information in the post, and you can be sure I would never be writing about anything unless it's something I would have happily purchased myself.)
I hope readers of Kalyn's Kitchen enjoy seeing what food products and kitchen items I'm recommending. As always, comments and suggestions are welcome.

I didn.t like the jarred sun dried tomatoes because of the oiliness. I found large bags of dried tomatoes (much like dried fruit) at Costco. I use them in everything!
I am thrilled to have learned about Penzey's Spices from you. Great philosphy, service, packaging options and, of course, quality! Thank you.
Anonymous, thanks. I just love their products, and actually just photographed something from Penzeys today to use as a future pick!
Hi Kalyn
Carole with an "e" again. Love your blog. The silicone baking cups look terrific and will go on my shopping list for my daughter who is a cupcake fiend. She recently made us double chocolate with chocolate chip cupcakes (I still have two in the freezer) and I'm sure she will love these as one of her Xmas gifts. Thanks for the info. PS: making the squash soup with kale and farro this evening for tomorrow night's dinner. Thanks, Carole
i love your blog and the presentation. you arr so sweet
Hi Kalyn
Thank you for your great website
I am a newbie at South Beach and I believe your website will become a valubable tool in assisting me with adjusting to the new South Beach way of Life.
May GOD bless you

Any advice on salad spinners? I've put off getting one; they only do one thing and take up so much space. But they'd also make life a little easier. Do you use one? What features should I look for?
Thanks!
Jana, I could not cook without my salad spinner! They're useful for so many things besides salad. I have a big one for lettuce and greens and a small one for herbs, and both are OXO brand. I've had a few different brands through the years, but this is definitely the best brand I've tried, and I've had my current ones for many years, so they're durable too. Hmm, maybe I should write a post about them!
Kalyn I just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed your website. I've gotten so many wonderful ideas from you!
I noticed that we have alot of the sames tastes so your recipes have really helped.
I am also a frequent Costco shopper (love that store) and it always seems that I foget something right after I've been there. Do you have a grocery shopping list of things that you purchase from Costco? Maybe if there was a master list that I could print off I won't forget something next time :)
Keep up the good work!!
Carol, glad you are enjoying the blog. I'm afraid I don't have a master list for Costco! what I do is have a notebook open on my kitchen counter at all times (so two pages are showing). I keep two lists there for the grocery store and Costco, and when I notice I'm low on something I write it down. Then when I go, I just tear out the page. This works well for me.
Kalyn,
Can you give me some suggestions for store-bought 100% Whole Wheat or 100% Whole Grain Bread that is not dense/heavy? I've tried several South Beach bread recipes and haven't found one that is light/soft enough for our tastes. The store bought packages I've checked have other flours (either "enriched" or "wheat") that seem against what we're supposed to eat. (Am I wrong in that?)
Thanks,
Betty
Betty you're right that it can be hard to find bread that's 100% whole wheat. If you enter "South Beach Diet bread" into the search box, you'll find a post I've written about choosing bread. That's the only help I can think of, I don't know what brands of bread are available where you shop.
what was the food processor you use again? thought it was a cuisinart, but can't find it on your page anymore. I looked it up on Amazon but there are too many to pick from! Costco has one right now, but I want to make sure I don't spend a lot of money on a dud!
I have the Cuisinart 7 cup DLC-10, which I have used for years and love!
This is actually my second one. About 10 years ago I dropped one on the floor and broke it, bought another brand of food processor to save money, and within 6 months I was buying another Cuisinart because it was so superior to the other brand. I think if you get a Cuisinart you can't go wrong, the differences are mainly in the size of the bowl. Have fun with it!
I practically lived off of this cheese when I was backpacking in Europe many years ago. It is still one of my favorites. Of course, over there it was known as "La Vache qui rit", (The Laughing Cow in French) which is what I still call it in my head.
Dara, it is a keeper isn't it. And I should have known the cheese was much hipper than I realized when Rex brought it to my house.
Fabulous website Kalyn!
Thanks for sharing your success and recipes on your website.
You do great work and thanks again for sharing!

Harry, glad you are enjoying the blog.
Kalyn,
What size crockpot are you using? What Brand?
Jeannette
Jeannette, I have about ten Crock-Pots, everything from 1.5 quart to about 6 quart. Most of them are Rival brand, but not all. I usually try to tell what size I used in the individual recipes.
I just got Crock-Pot® 7-quart from your favorite store (Costco). Will your recipes work using this 7 quart crock pot?
Jeannette, the size of the CrockPot does matter in slow cooker recipes, because the slow cooker must be a little over half full to cook properly. I'd guess most of my recipes are made in a 3.5 - 4.5 quart slow cooked (check the individual recipes to see the size.) So you may need to double the recipe in some cases, but most food cooked in a slow cooker freezes well so that might not be a bad thing at all!
Any chance you have this food list in a printable format? Trying to save myself lots of cutting and pasting :) Thanks for the great recipes!
Hi Angie, glad you are enjoying the recipes. I am constantly updating this list, so my best suggestion would be to just highlight and print this page.
Dear Kalyn,
I love your website and try many dishes.
I plan to eat salads a lot this summer and your recipes sound so good. And I had a question.
Can you please let me know what brand/kind of salad spinners you use ? I tried to dry the leaves with paper towels and I was not happy with the results.
Please help.
Thank you.
Mala
Mala, glad you are enjoying the site. My favorite salad spinner is the one made by OXO with a black disc in the middle that you push down on to make it spin. I have that in both sizes and use them both a lot.
THANK YOU !!! :)
Hey kalyn,
Sorry to bother about this. But I found 2 kinds of OXO with black button. Here they are :

So which one is the one you use ?
Thank You !
Mala
Mine is a few years old, but it looks just like the one from target. (And actually I think those might be the same in how they work, just slightly different design.)
