South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for April 2009 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Every month I post Low-Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups featuring all the South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes I've cooked that month or found on other blogs, but I confess, some months the process of saving the bookmarks is pretty serendipitous. Interestingly though, even when it's hectic around here, I always end up with a pretty good collection of phase one recipes. Since one reason for doing these round-ups is to illustrate that it's not that hard to find good things to eat for phase one, it works out just perfectly!

Often I'll find recipes that are close to phase one with just minor adaptations, so those things are noted with the recipe link. Of course, even if my life was a lot calmer, I could never find every phase one recipe. If you're a food blogger who's posted a recipe you think would be approved for phase one, check after the list of recipe links to see how to submit it.  (You can use the label Low-Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups to see all the posts like this one.)

Did I Miss Your Phase One Recipe?
Phase one menus for the South Beach Diet focus on lean meats, seafood, eggs, dried beans, soy products, low-fat dairy products, nuts and seeds, and most vegetables. Phase one doesn't permit fruit, alcohol, bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, sugar, or any foods high in saturated fat. Obviously I miss lots of phase one recipes, so if you're a food blogger who posted a recipe this month that you think would be approved for phase one, please feel free to e-mail me the link at kalynskitchen (at) comcast (dot) net. I'll take a look, and if the recipe is phase-one friendly, I'll add it to next months roundup. (Please don't leave recipe links in the comments. They will not be published.)

More to Chew On:

  1. I'm not following the South Beach diet but, after looking at all of these fabulous recipes, I think I need to re-consider!

  2. The tremendous amount of time and effort you put into this list is greatly appreciated! I just come to your site when I need more SBD recipes. I made your milk-braised chops the other night (posted about them, too) and just loved them!

  3. Hi Kalyn. I made your Turkey Lettuce Wrap Tacos a few days ago (changing the recipe a cilantro for me) and they were absolutely delicious! I posted about them with a link to your recipe. They're my new favorite tacos. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

  4. Cookin' Canuck, part of what I'm trying to show is that this is just tasty and healthful food. Thanks for noticing!

Cyndi, glad you like it, and glad to hear you liked the pork chops.

Gloria, thanks for letting me know. One of my very favorite recipes ever too! And even though I'm a cilantro freak (ha ha) I think it's the lime and cumin conbo that makes this so great!

  5. thank you. thank yo, thank you. i'm eating low carb and you have no idea how useful your blog is as a resource.

  6. Great posting with so many delicious looking recipes! Thank you for adding my recipe in your Phase One Appetizers and Condiments. Cheers!

  7. It looks delicious Kalyn. Thanks for the link.

  8. What delicious compilation of healthy recipes. I know I will refer to it often for fresh ideas. Thanks for putting it all together and for linking me!

  9. this site is great! very appreciative!

  10. Anonymous, thanks. So glad you like it.

  11. Wow! I just discovered your site and love it! Thank you for doing this. It's a service to all of us who are (constantly) on South Beach!

  12. Donna, you're welcome, and I'm constantly on it myself, so it's good for me too!

  13. Are Pinto Beans ok on Phase 1? I am just starting the diet and love Pintos, but I thought they were out.

  14. I think in some of the earlier books pinto beans must have been listed as phase two, but in the latest book they are phase one.
