Kalyn's Kitchen Picks: Bel Gioioso Fresh Mozzarella Pearls

Bel Gioioso Fresh Mozzarella Pearls
You can tell how much I've been loving these fresh mozzarella "pearls" by Bel Gioioso from Costco, because I actually used a part of this container before I remembered I wanted to take a photo for the blog. I guess the fact I couldn't wait to eat some is proof enough that I'm endorsing these as one of my Kalyn's Kitchen Picks, the feature where I rave about products I'd happily buy over and over. At $3.59 for a one-pound container at my Costco, these are a great buy, with a mild, creamy flavor that just says summer to me.

First I used the mozzarella pearls in this Tomato, Olive, and Fresh Mozzarella Salad with Basil Vinaigrette. This was made with the very first basil from this year's garden, and it was so fresh tasting, even though I don't have any garden tomatoes yet. I can't wait to make this again when I have tomatoes from my garden.

Then I after my basil had grown back a little, I made Marinated Fresh Mozzarella with Herbs, another dish with that wonderul herby flavor of summer. This would be a great appetizer when you want to impress your friend without much fuss.

  1. I love those little mozarella balls, although they are pretty hard to find over here. Not sure why but maybe people are just not so into mozarella here... Which seems hard to believe actually... Your suggestions for recipes with the little gems sound great too!

  2. I just learned recently that you can freeze mozzarella balls -- great for when you're waiting for your garden basil and tomatoes to catch up!

  3. WOW that's cheap! I wonder if I can find them at Sam's. I always thought those things would be expensive, but that isn't bad at all. :-)

  5. I love the pearls. They are the perfect size to use in chickpea salad, which we have at least every other week during the summer.

  7. I love your blog, Kalyn! In what department did you find those little mozarella pearls? I went to my Costco after you posted the recipe for the tomato, black olive, and mozarella salad. Found everything but the pearls and we had to settle for regular mozarella cut in little blocks. It tasted wonderful but I'd sure like the pearls for next time I make this.

  8. I've never had little mozzarella pearls like that. The way you use them is mouthwatering though. I could really use a big portion of that salad RIGHT NOW. :)

  10. Thanks for the tip, Kayln. I don't know if my Costco has these or not, but you can be sure that I plan to find out! I usually avoid the cheese section of Costco - such wonderful, gourmet cheeses - too much temptation. It's nice to know they may have something yummy hiding in their case that I can eat in good conscience!

  11. I found the mozzarella pearls at the Costco in Salt Lake at 1800 South and 300 West, but I noticed the Bountiful Costco didn't have them, so maybe they're only at the bigger stores. Well worth looking for though! If other people try them I'd love to hear how you're using them.

  12. Hi Kalyn! Don't you just love those little cheese balls? When I'm preparing a dish with these beauties, I find it hard not to pop a couple (or more) in my mouth! :) Great recipes & thanks for adding mine! Cheers!

  13. I just found these at Sam's last week. With the wild growing basil in my backyard I think I'll be going through a lot of this during the summer.

  15. Checked these out at Costco (same store as Kalyn in SLC, UT) but put them back to await tomatoes from the garden (maybe next week for some Golden Nuggets) since the sell-by date was soon.
