Happy Fourth of July and Time to Start Grilling!

Happy Fourth of July to everyone in the U.S. I'm guessing lots of you will be cooking outside today. If you're looking for something to grill for the holiday, pictured above is Carol's Completely Fabulous Steak Marinade and Grilled Tri-Tip, one of the all-time most popular things I've posted in the Grilling Recipes on Kalyn's Kitchen. I also featured some of my favorite grilling recipes in Grilling Ideas for the Fourth of July 2007 and Grilling Ideas for the Fourth of July 2008. This year my grill has been packed away due to house renovations, but I finally got it back a few days ago and I'm excited to try some new grilling ideas.

What's going to be on the grill at your house for the holiday weekend? If you're not too busy cooking, let us know in the comments about your favorite things to cook on the grill.

  1. I hope you have a wonderful July 4th! In the midst of months of constant rain, today looks like its going to be sunny and a bit dry!

We will be outside doing a modest un-gourmet grilling of hot dogs, buns, and then some s'mores.. the first time for my kids. I figure they need to have this at least once to look back on in their childhood memories!

  2. Happy 4th, Kalyn! What a glorious meat shot. So perfect for today! I haven't done any shopping for today but I did defrost some ribs that had been in the freezer for... WAY too long. :-) Wish I had a couple of slices of that delicious looking steak on my breakfast plate right about now.

  3. Happy Independence Day. I hope it's not Will Smith who's giving you the grilling.

  5. We grilled our specialty thrkey burgers - on an indoor grill pan. I've been reading about your renovations and working out my plan for when we do our kitchen in a few weeks. Glad you got the grill back for the 4th. Happy Independence Day!

  6. Nika, thanks. We finally had a sunny day too. Yes, when you have kids, there has to be hot dogs and s'mores on the 4th of July.

    Amanda, thanks! Ribs sound good.

Trig, no, although I'd love to meet him!

Trish, sorry to hear it. We had a lovely day; actually about perfect weather.

Amy, good luck with the kitchen remodel. I did my kitchen 12 years ago with the first remodel on my house and haven't ever regretted it!

  8. Thanks, and happy 4th of July!

I'm wondering what your favorite spices are? I cook a lot with Rosemary, especially in the colder months, which is pretty much all the time here in VT.

An interesting note: I just read an article on ConditionNutrition that said Rosemary was used by ancient peoples to enhance their memory. Huh? Why then can't I remember what I did five minutes ago -- and I use the stuff alot.

Anyway, share your fave spices, please.

  9. Cynthis and Daisy, thanks. Happy Fourth to you guys too.

Bud, oh my, what would my favorite spices be? (I'm assuming you mean spices and herbs both?) There are so many that I like, in fact there are very few that I don't like.

    garlic
    basil
    cilantro
    mint
    parsley
    tarragon
    rosemary
    thyme
    chives
    cumin
    paprika
    black pepper
    fennel seed

I'm sure there are more that I'm missing, but I love all those!
