Green Chilis in a canWhat does The Oprah Winfrey Show have to do with this enormous can of whole green chiles from my pantry? Keep reading to find out, because I promise it’s one of the most fun things I’ve ever shared on Friday!

Fun Thing #1: My Food Photo on The Oprah Winfrey Show!

Tune in to the Oprah Winfrey Show on Wednesday, November 3, to see what that enormous can of whole green chiles and this photo of Chili Rellenos Bake has to do with Oprah Winfrey. (Hint: be sure to watch clear until the closing credits, where you’ll see Kalyn’s Kitchen listed under photography!)

Fun Thing #2: My Friend Lydia Featured in Yankee Magazine

I always knew my blogging friend Lydia was an angel (she’s done so many nice things for me.) But now Lydia has been officially named one of the “Angels Among Us 2010” by Yankee Magazine for establishing her non-profit organization Drop In and Decorate, which encourages people to hold cookie decorating parties and then distribute the cookies to organizations which serve people in need. Visit the Drop in and Decorate blog to get more information about hosting a cookie-decorating party for your community, and go Lydia!

Fun Thing #3: Vote for Ben McAdams for State Senate!
You may be wondering why I’m giving a political endorsement on my food blog, where I never talk about politics, but you’ll see why I’m making an exception when I tell you that Utah State Senator Ben McAdams was one of my students when I taught elementary school! Now Ben is running for re-election, and if you live in Salt Lake Senate District #2, I hope you’ll support him. I remember Ben as one of those bright, charismatic, and thoughtful students that everyone loved, so I’m not really surprised to see he ended up in politics. And maybe he’ll Google himself and find that his former teacher has given him an endorsement; wouldn’t that be fun?

Fun Thing #4: Lots of Pumpkin Recipes at BlogHer.com!
Many of you know that besides writing this blog I also write a feature called Weekend Menu Planning for BlogHer.com, where each weekend I suggest seasonal things to cook. All during October I’ve been spotlighting pumpkin recipes, so if you’re thinking about making something with pumpkin for Halloween or Thanksgiving, check them out:

Pumpkin Recipes for Soup, Stew, Chili, and Drinks
Savory Pumpkin Recipes for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner
Pumpkin Recipes for Cupcakes, Cookies, Cakes, Bread, or Muffins
Twenty More Pumpkin Sweets for Halloween Treats.

Fun Thing #5: How to Increase Your Metabolism
I read a huge number of blogs through Google Reader, and one that I’ve been following for a while is AskGeorgie.com, where a registered dietician named Georgie Fear shares recipes and answers questions from readers. Today Georgie answered “How Can I Boost my Metabolism” in a well-written post that seems very timely as we enter into the season of indulgent eating. Go read it, and I’m betting you’ll learn something!

Okay, those are five fun things from this week for me, so now it’s your turn to share. Let us know in the comments if you’ve spotted anything especially fun this week while you’ve been cruising around the web!    If you need just a little more Friday Fun, you can use the label for Five Fun Things on Friday to see fun things I’ve shared on other Fridays!
