Christmas Favorites: Five Favorite Appetizers for Holiday Parties

Everywhere you go these days people are looking harried with last-minute holiday preparations.  Around here I'm getting ready to go visit some of my favorite kids for Christmas, so there hasn't been a lot of cooking going on.  I thought for the next few days I'd share some favorite ideas for Christmas foods before I take a few days off from the blog.  (You haven't planned your whole week of Christmas menus yet have you?  I didn't think so.)  Let's start with five favorite appetizers I'd love to serve for a holiday party, beginning with this Sun-Dried Tomato Tapenade with Garlic and Herbs, something I've made many times for parties that's always been a hit.

If you put these Marinated Fresh Mozzarella Balls with Herbs out on a table filled with rich holiday foods, I'm betting these will be one of the first things to be gone.  You could add some chopped roasted red peppers if you wanted to make this more red and green colored.

I loved Roasted Chickpeas as a snack, and one of my favorites is these Chickpeas Roasted with Tamari and Sea Salt.

If you made Slow Roasted Tomatoes this summer, you can turn some of them into Roasted Tomato, Basil, and Goat Cheese Holiday Spread.  (If you don't have roasted tomatoes, there are suggestions for substitutes in the recipe.)

And last, but definitely not least, this White Bean and Artichoke Dip with Whole Wheat Tortilla Chips is something that will keep you coming back for more, and it might help you stay away from the holiday sweets as well.

What's your favorite healthy appetizer for holiday parties?  If you have good ideas, please let us know about them in the comments.

  3. Well, darn. I was just going to toss some cheese and crackers, dips and chips on the table but now I can't...these look too good not to try one or two. The mozzarella balls with herbs and the sun-dried tomato tapenade, I think. Yum.

Soooo...off to the market in the morning for the fixins'.

  14. Great post; it's all about snacks and dips and spreads this time of year, it seems. Yours look and sound scrumptious, every one of them. I gotta roast chickpeas again soon—those are so wonderful.

    Happy holidays!

  17. Now I'm hungry. Those all look so good. Mama Mia!

Sometimes I toss the mozzarella balls with basil or pesto from the freezer. You're right. They go fast. I have an open jar of piqillo peppers too. I know what I'm making for x-mas eve.
