Downtown Salt Lake City has a number of excellent restaurants, and one that I've been slow to experience is Bambara, located in the historic Hotel Monaco in the heart of downtown Salt Lake. The restaurant has won an impressive number of dining awards and it's been open for years, but for some reason I ate there for the first time about a month ago. I loved the restaurant so much I went back for lunch with my friend Bonnie and sister-in-law Amy (whose Amazing Chili has earned her quite a few fans on the blog.) And this time I took my camera! The first thing that caught my eye was these lovely salt and pepper shakers, custom made for the restaurant.
Friday Night Photos is all about me experimenting with taking photos for fun and when I can't control the conditions quite as much as when I'm taking food photos at home. (Not that those pictures are always the greatest!) In Bambara we were seated by a window with wonderful light, and the black tables made an interesting background. I'm barely an amateur photographer, but you can find out more about my camera and the lenses I use in the Frequently Asked Questions if you're interested.
Amy's lunch came with a salad, and she opted for this Fuji Apple Salad with Belgian Endive, Arugula, Walnuts, Champagne Vinaigrette, and Maytag Blue Cheese.
Bonnie ordered the same salad for lunch and added a grilled chicken breast. Both Amy and Bonnie loved the flavors in this salad.
I ordered the Flat Iron Steak Cobb Salad with Butter Lettuce, Bacon, Egg, Avocado, Slow Roasted Tomatoes, and Maytag Blue Cheese. The Bleu Cheese is a bit of a splurge, but other than that, this was almost a phase one lunch, and I love the idea of a deconstructed Cobb Salad!
Amy's entree was the Smoked Turkey Wrap with Smoky Bacon, Dill Havarti Cheese, and Sundried Cranberry Jam. The Jam was a delightful touch, and it came with Herbed Potato Chips in several colors.
We all enjoyed our lunch at Bambara, and I don't think there's any doubt we'll be eating lunch there again soon.

No one at Bambara knew that I was a food blogger, and we paid for our own lunch. I don't do formal restaurant reviews, but occasionally I like to share photos of places where I've had great meals. You can read about some other places I've enjoyed in Salt Lake City Restaurants, Restaurants in Utah Cities, and Restaurants in U.S. Cities.
