South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for August 2011 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Kalyn's favorite Phase One Recipe from August 2011 was Spicy Sichuan Style Green Beans.

Right now I'm feeling very pleased about the number of really fantastic Phase One recipes I found on other blogs during the month of August.  When I reached three years of doing these round-ups and decided to start limiting them to recipe ideas that hadn't been previously featured, I wasn't sure how many new ones I'd find every month, but in August there were tasty Phase One recipes everywhere I looked.  Some of you are going to laugh when I say this, but maybe it was partly because for the entire month of August I felt guilty that I should have been doing Phase One and I wasn't!  All summer I've been a little too focused on traveling, family parties, and restaurant dinners and my weight was starting to creep up a bit.  But this Monday I started Phase One for real, and I've already lost a couple of pounds.  (And that's one of the reasons why I love the South Beach Diet!)

So even though I am in mourning that it's actually September, I'm excited to share these tasty Phase One ideas for anyone else who's doing a little diet tune-up, or for people who just want healthy low-glycemic eating for any reason.  (You can use the label Low-Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups to see all the posts like this one.)  Every month I always find a few things that can easily be made Phase One with minor changes, and when that's the case I'll mention it after the recipe links.  And if you're a food blogger who's posted something that might be a new idea for Phase One, see after the recipe links for how to submit it.

Did I Miss Your Phase One Recipe?
Phase one menus for the South Beach Diet focus on lean meats, seafood, eggs, dried beans, soy products, low-fat dairy products, nuts and seeds, and most vegetables. Phase one doesn't permit fruit, alcohol, bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, sugar, or any foods high in saturated fat. Obviously I miss lots of phase one recipes, so if you're a food blogger who posted a recipe this month that you think would be approved for phase one, please feel free to e-mail me the link at kalynskitchen (at) comcast (dot) net. I'll take a look, and if the recipe is phase-one friendly, I'll add it to next months roundup.  (Since I've been doing these Round-ups since March 2008, occasionally I may decline a recipe if the same thing has been featured several times already.  Please don't leave recipe links in the comments. They will not be published.)

I love these monthly round-ups. I know it's a lot of work to put them together, but I save them and refer to them often. It's also a great way to discover new-to-me blogs.

This is another wonderful round-up, Kalyn. I'm definitely heading over to The Culinary Chase to get the recipe for the eggplant with mint.

Okay, Comcast is messing with me again. Dara, don't know why your comment took so long to get to my e-mail. Didn't that mint salsa sound fantastic on the eggplant. I love that blog!

It is so amazing what you do

Dave, I think I am safe to say I never have cookies for breakfast. (Cold pizza, now that's a different story.) I do try though; once I realized just how much I did not like being overweight it was a bit easier!

What a wonderful collection of recipes - thank you for putting this together, love how you have them all by category to make it easier to choose what to try (although that's tough too since everything sounds so good!).

Thanks Jeanette! I did think it was a good selection this time.

While I don't follow the South Beach diet, I agree that sometimes my body craves a complete lack of sugar and starch. It is refreshing to see such flavourful recipes each month. :)

Thanks for the shout out for my dal palak. Mmmm.. :)

Hi Kalyn,
Thanks for including one of my recipes. The cucumber ground beef dish is really a great one. My family loved it!! Now I have to get the recipe for the Indian lentils with spinach. Right down my alley. Thanks!
