South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-up for June 2012 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Spicy Cabbage Slaw with Chicken and Cilantro
Out of all the Phase One Favorites this month, I picked Spicy Cabbage Slaw with Chicken and Cilantro.

The calendar has changed from June to July, and we're officially in the time of year for "summer food."   For me that means veggies from the garden, easy main dish salads, and grilled foods, and that kind of lighter eating makes life a bit easier for anyone who's focusing on Phase One.  Of course, summer also means traveling, which can lead to indulging in foods you'd probably be able to resist at home, so maybe what's needed in the summer is a balance between the fresh seasonal foods that are so diet-friendly and the indulgences when you're traveling.  This round-up of the South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes that I've posted on Kalyn's Kitchen or found on other blogs during June can help you with the light seasonal eating, but you're on your own when it comes to resisting the more indulgent summer foods!

(You can use the label Low-Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups to see all the posts like this one.)

I post one of these Phase One Round-ups every month and collect them on an Archives Page for the Phase One Round-ups.  I usually eat similar foods at the same time each year, so one way I like to use that archives page is to check what recipes were featured in previous years during the current month.  Whenever I check back, I find things I meant to try but forgot about!  Of course,  every month I find some recipes that could be Phase One with minor changes, so those types of comments are noted after the recipe links.  And if you're a food blogger who's posted something that might be a new idea for Phase One, see after the recipe links for how to submit it.

Did I Miss Your Phase One Recipe?
Phase one menus for the South Beach Diet focus on lean meats, seafood, eggs, dried beans, soy products, low-fat dairy products, nuts and seeds, and most vegetables. Phase one doesn't permit fruit, alcohol, bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, sugar, or any foods high in saturated fat. Obviously I miss lots of phase one recipes, so if you're a food blogger who posted a recipe this month that you think would be approved for phase one, please feel free to e-mail me the link at kalynskitchen (at) comcast (dot) net. I'll take a look, and if the recipe is phase-one friendly, I'll add it to next months roundup.  (I don't feature posts with any type of sponsored content or ingredients.  Also, since I've been doing these Round-ups since March 2008, occasionally I may decline a recipe if the same thing has been featured several times already.  Please don't leave recipe links in the comments. They will not be published.)

Thanks for joining the conversation! I love hearing from readers and even though I can't always reply to every comment, I will always answer specific questions on a recipe as soon as possible. Sometimes I'm answering by iPhone, so my replies may be short!

Comments don't appear on the blog until they're approved by me, so no need to try again if you don't see it! Feel free make your signature a link to your site if you're a blogger, but links posted within the body of the comment will never be published.
