Kalyn's Kitchen Picks: Bel Gioioso Sliced Fresh Mozzarella

Bel Gioioso Sliced Fresh Mozzarella
Make Caprese Salad prep a little easier with this mozzarella that comes already sliced!

I love fresh mozzarella, especially in the summer when it pairs so perfectly with fresh tomatoes and fresh basil in different takes on Caprese Salad.  For years the only thing I didn't like about this creamy summer cheese was how hard it was to slice.  Then sometime in the last couple of years I bought a two pack of Bel Gioioso Fresh Mozzarella (from Costco) and when I got it home I noticed the word "Sliced" on the package.   I guess it doesn't take too much to get me excited, because I was thrilled about discovering the pre-sliced mozzarella!  This year I've bought this sliced fresh mozzarella over and over and I decided it's time to officially give it the nod as one of my Kalyn's Kitchen Picks, the series of posts where I spotlight my favorite products.

I've also been a long time fan of the Fresh Mozzarella Pearls made by the same company, but this summer they didn't show up at my Costco as they had in the past.  However, having these pre-cut slices made it super easy to cut the mozzarella into cubes, to use in place of the pearls.  This has been a fresh mozzarella summer for me, and I'm hoping for good tomatoes for a few more weeks so I can use the last two packages of sliced fresh mozzarella I have in the fridge.  And fresh mozzarella like this has only 5 grams of fat per ounce, making a delicious and diet-friendly treat.  Here are some ideas for how to use this favorite product of mine:

These Grilled Zucchin Caprese Stacks are definitely
one of my favorite new recipes from this summer!

was one of my Caprese Salad favorites from a few years ago.

I used the mozzarella pearls for this Asparagus and Fresh Mozzarella Frittata
with Parmesan and Chives, but you could cut the slices into cubes to make this as well.

These Green Goddess Tomato Mozzarella Stacks are one of my favorite things to make
with Green Goddess Salad Dressing.  I used my favorite Green Zebra Tomatoes
but you can make this with any flavorful tomatoes you have.

I cut the mozzarella slices into cubes and marinated the cheese

Tomato, Olive, and Fresh Mozzarella Salad with Basil Vinaigrette was something I first made with the fresh mozzarella pearls, but this year I cut the slices into cubes for this favorite salad.

was my version of a salad I enjoyed in a restaurant in Salt Lake.

fresh mozzarella melted over the tomatoes and basil.

Are you a fresh mozzarella fan?  If so, let us know in the comments about some of your favorite ways to use this delicious creamy cheese.

  1. Whenever we can't get local mozzarella around here, this is also the brand I turn to!

  2. Joanne, love hearing it's approved by you!

  3. I went to our local Costco last week and they don't have this cheese anymore. I'm heartbroken.

    1. I haven't found it this year either. That's the only thing I hate about Costco; seems like once they stop carrying something they never get it again.

  4. I haven't tried this brand, only Galbani. When it says sliced (as Galbani does too), is it actually capable of being pulled apart? I found Galbani pre-sliced to certainly have been sliced, but it has since rejoined and cannot be separated without tearing, meaning you have to slice it anyway, with the odd piece still separating, making it a nice idea but a mess of odd shaped pieces.
Does the Giogioso slicing actually work?

    1. Yes, this brand really does stay sliced, even when I have sealed it in plastic with the food-saver.
