South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for March 2014 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Kalyn's favorite Phase One Recipes from March 2014 were Pressure Cooker Mexican Beans with Avocado-Poblano Salsa, Cauliflower with Garlic and Lemon, Cheesy Baked Cauliflower Tots, Ground Turkey Low-Carb Enchilada Casserole with Red and Green Chiles, and Sriracha Beef Cabbage Bowl.

I really did enjoy my years teaching elementary school, but on April Fool's Day I'm glad I'm not at school with a whole room full of fourth graders trying to trick me.  Other than that, I love the first day of April, because when it's April there's no denying that it's spring!  That's true even if the Utah weather is dumping snow on us like it did over the weekend; it won't be long before we're growing veggies and herbs and enjoying the sun.  This time of year can be challenging in the eating department though; some days are still pure comfort food, but other days a simple salad seems like it would be plenty.  Luckily there's something for everyone in this month's South Beach Diet Phase One Low-Glycemic Recipes Round-Up; hope you will find something fun to try.

Every month when I'm saving recipes to share here I find things that can easily be made Phase One with minor changes, so any needed adaptations are noted after the recipe links.  You can see all the recipe round-ups (six years worth now!) by using the label Low Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups or see the Pinterest board for Kalyn's Kitchen South Beach Diet Phase One Recipe Round-ups. And if you're a food blogger who's posted something that might be a new idea for Phase One, see after the recipe links for how to submit it.

Did I Miss Your Phase One Recipe?
Phase one menus for the South Beach Diet focus on lean meats, seafood, eggs, dried beans, soy products, low-fat dairy products, nuts and seeds, and most vegetables. Phase one doesn't permit fruit, alcohol, bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, sugar, or any foods high in saturated fat. Obviously I miss lots of phase one recipes, so if you're a food blogger who posted a recipe this month that you think would be approved for phase one, please feel free to e-mail me the link at kalynskitchen (at) comcast (dot) net. I'll take a look, and if the recipe is phase-one friendly, I'll add it to next months roundup.  (Since I've been doing these Round-ups since March 2008, occasionally I may decline a recipe if the same thing has been featured several times already.  Please don't leave recipe links in the comments. They will not be published.)

  8. Kalyn, I've been reading your blog for years and recently started following you on facebook. But I've never tried the SB diet. Yesterday at my physical I told my doctor I want to lose some weight. She suggested SB! So now I am doing low carb. I think phase 1 will be too restrictive for my life. I can leave off breads and obvious carbs, ie sugar and potatoes. But fruit is sort of a non-starter for me. So if I start on phase 1.5 do you think I will have long term success? Thanks for all your delicious recipes. I've been using them for a long time without the diet!!

  9. Marsha, I know that one of the books recommends that people who can't eat eggs just start with phase 2, so I'm thinking that if you try to stick to Phase One but with a little fruit, that should work. Phase One really does "jump start" your body into losing weight and also eliminates the craving for carbs. But truthfully if you omit all the white foods that SB doesn't allow (potatoes, white bread, white rice, white flour pasta, etc.) I think that change alone would make most people lose weight! Good luck!
