This week we have St. Patrick's Day, the time when people all over the U. S. will be enjoying Irish-American favorites like Corned Beef and Irish Soda Bread. I love making those dishes every year, even though most of the foods Americans eat for this Irish holiday actually aren't really that popular in Ireland. It was actually for economic reasons that Irish immigrants started cooking corned beef and cabbage after they arrived in the United States, and now that's certainly the food that most Americans associate with this holiday.
I'm a little bit Irish myself, and I love all things St. Patrick's Day! (Well, maybe not green beer, but you know what I mean.) And one thing I really love about this Irish holiday is the way it gets grocery stores to sell cabbage at ridiculously cheap prices. I love, love, love cabbage and it's on sale at three pounds for $1.00 this week at the store where I shop most often!
